Man of the week: Usain Bolt

This week, Inhale Fashion is keeping in line with the excitement of the London 2012 Olympics and there is no other more suited to being our Man of The Week than super sprinter, Usain Bolt.

Keeping his cool on and off the track, Man of the week Usain Bolt knows not to pace too far behind great style. Often coveted in the traditional green, yellow and black colours that are synonymous with the Jamaican flag,  Bolt is aware of what suits him and his slender figure making this key to his style that incorporates sports wear and fashion.

The 3 x Olympic Gold Medalist is not unfamiliar with being in the limelight. Bolt has ensured to be fashion forward with his clothes, whether he is competing or representing himself at an event. It is for this reason that he is Inhale Fashion’s Man of the Week as style is about knowing your individual look and how you get this across to others. It was not long ago thatUsain Bolt collaborated with the ever-popular brand Puma to create a line that focused on being athletic and stylish at the same time. The collection was a fusion of Puma’s unique approach to sports clothing combined with Bolt’s signature style that was not without bold colour choices that we are so familiar seeing the world-class athlete embrace

Often the difficulty with combining sports with fashion is always to bear in mind the functionality of sports wear and making sure it is performance worthy.  Usain Bolt ensures that he captivates this whilst remaining a style icon at the same time. When he is not competing or training, Usain Bolt is often seen boasting classic tailored suit’s that fit his streamlined build and he looks nothing less than dapper. He is an iconic example that you can dress smartly no matter what your shape is. While he is used honing in on his craft and winning accolades in his chosen sport, Bolt is an avid admirer of Gucci and can appreciate great tailoring design that provide a change from the training clothes that he so used to wearing.

A Collected Style Interview: Yohance Raphael Lewis
Founder and editor of men’s fashion publication ‘Inhale Fashion Exhale Style’ http://inhalefashion.com

What’s your definition of Style?
Looking good without trying too hard. Sometimes the most stylish people are the ones who wear the simplest outfits.

What inspired your Style?
Music and film really does inspire my style. Different eras and genre’s represented through film and music have always been interesting to me. The generation we live in now is somewhat bland and a bit jumbled up. If we could go back in time and wear some of the staple outfits that were the norm in the 40s 50s and 60s, then that would be amazing.

The do’s and don’t’s of Style/Fashion?
The do’s are to keep things simple. Try to have one piece on you that catches the attention. I love pocket squares so I guess that could be an item, which finishes off a stylish outfit. The don’ts would certainly be to not overload on fashion. What I mean by that is, just because it’s on-trend, it doesn’t mean that it is right for you. Identify what works for you as an individual.

How does your style of dress reflect who you are to people?
I think my styles reflects me in a way in which people can see I know what i am doing. It is good to be versatile so i like to mix things up but I never go over the top. Being subtle is cool and I think people respect me for that.

What’s one thing you would take out of Fashion World and one thing you would add?
I guess I would take out the absolute need for some people to impress no matter what. Most times people can come across looking a bit clumsy when they force fashion. I say chill out and enjoy it but do not take it so seriously. As for something I would add, i would a more welcoming industry. Does that make sense? Sometimes our industry can come across as quite intimidating. Fashion is for everyone, so everyone should be able to love it and feel apart of it.

Tips for up and coming Fashion/Style bloggers?
Tips would be to work hard and to know your industry. If it is men’s fashion you are into then make sure you know as much as you need to. I always use this example…. Imagine if you were stuck in a lift for 2 minutes with a prominent editor and for some reason he or she started to talk to you about fashion. Could you sell yourself in those 2 minutes so they knew you were the real deal? Also, Just keep your eyes open and take in your surroundings. Fashion and style is everywhere so keep on top of it.

What’s going to be big this fall season?
I am not going to list everything that will be big this season because for everything I list, someone else will tell you something different. All I can say to the guys is make sure you have a great trench coat. I have been obsessing over a few. A trench will always be a classic piece of investment.
What’s your dream job?
My dream job is the one that allows me the freedom to live my life the way I want to live it. Fashion is where I am at right now but I am always changing and evolving so In 10 years we may see something very different. But for now I have my dream job as the editor of Inhale fashion Exhale Style.
All time favorite item clothing or shoe?
My all time favorite item of clothing was a green bobble hat i picked up from a vintage shop a few years back. (Yes not very glam) But green is my favorite color and that hat made my life until i lost it.

Who’s your style icon and why?
A guy called Denny Wenny who is based in New Jersey. Just a normal dude who really does his thing. If you don’t know him then go to his blog  http://dennysworld.tumblr.com/. Inhale Fashion is going to do some work with him soon so look out for that on our site.

When A man’s style becomes priority

When it comes to fashion it’s often easier to get it wrong than it is to get it right. Men’s fashion may be perceived as easy to negotiate – how hard can it be to dress well when your wardrobe staples are trousers, shirts and jackets? – but when a man’s style becomes his top priority the art of dapper dressing can be trickier than you’d think.

A man’s style should vary according to his day-to-day life. Suits may be appropriate for some in the world of work while chinos and T-shirts are often more of a weekend uniform. Whatever your personal style, the trick to always getting it right is to dress according to what you have going on. When choosing what to wear it’s also important to think about the impression you’re trying to make. Whether going for a big interview or on a first date, remember that your style is an extension of your personality and prospective employers and love interests will be interested in getting a sense of you on that big first meeting. So, if you’re more of a dandy dresser add a silk pocket square to your suit blazer or if boho is more you’re thing, opt for relaxed fabrics such as linen or brushed cotton to keep things casual-cool.

London Collections Men: Why It Matters

With the huge success of London’s first fashion week dedicated to menswear, the importance and appreciation of fashion for men is clear. London Collections Men saw a combination of British brands and young talented designers making their mark on one of the most hotly anticipated events in our fashion calendars.

The build-up and impact of London Collections Men has enabled Inhale Fashion to reflect on how far menswear has come. This significant focus on male fashion indicates recognition of a side of the industry that has missed the spotlight one too many times. With womenswear usually taking centre stage, or catwalk should I say, this event celebrated the significance and fun of menswear and how it is to be embraced in the future.

Collections from the likes of Jonathan Saunders with his bright colour palette and mixed prints represented the bold and exuberant side of menswear, and showed that there is more to the modern man than just a trouser suit in dull colours. You can take great influence from tradition and put your own stylish stamp on it. Saunders is the perfect example of taking menswear to the extreme whilst remaining completely relevant. This indeed is a skill that the event relished in.

Inhale Fashion Man of the week: Christian Bale

There is something rather dark and edgy about Inhale Fashion’s latest stylish man of the week. It is often claimed that controversy and style go hand-in-hand, therefore British actor Christian Bale would seem to fit the bill perfectly.

When analysing the fashion style of ‘man of the week’ Christian Bale, one word springs to mind, and that word is ‘Dark’. Bale loves dark colours in both his suits, and when he is dressing down. Bale’s casual wear is kept very simple. He tends to stick to the more macho side of fashion and that works perfectly for both his build and his bad-ass persona. Simple black t-shirts and dark wash jeans play a major part in his day-to-day style, as does the odd leather biker jacket. His footwear is always quite understated so expect to see him in a causal pair of trainers or a pair of boots. It is always smart to remember that good style is not always delivered dressed up. A jeans and t-shirt guy can still be stylish if he makes the right choices with the jeans and t-shirt at his disposal. Christian Bale certainly does that by choosing clothes that work in tandem with his frame.

Clothes: The right ones that (could) get the girl

When trying to attract members of the opposite sex there are many important things to remember. One of the most important things are the clothes you choose. They can act as a turn on or a turn off.

Clothing for guys is extremely important. All men should know that good clothes can get you ahead in the race for the girl. Females don’t do creepy, so any odd looking winks that make you look like you have a serious problem need to be shelved forever. Smiling is good but too much teeth could see her running for the hills. Always remember to carry a mint, and keep your focus on her eyes and not on other areas.

Even with all of this much needed info, the truth does often come down to what you have on at the time of your first encounter. There really is no coming back from a pair of ill-fitting stained jogging bottoms and trainers with the front holes so big that she can see your crusty grey socks from a mile away. Clothes might not actually get you the girl but they can certainly help you along in their quest for a date.

Some men might read this and think well actually a woman will love you for your personality and not for your clothes. This is of course correct if the woman knows your personality from the get-go. If not, you can be sure that how you look on first glance is the most important factor at that time. Everything else comes afterwards. This is human nature, we all judge a book by the first cover we see.

Intimidated By Fashion

Some individuals might look at the title of this article and get slightly confused as to how fashion can be intimidating.

Fashion and trends are something that are constantly evolving and revolving, and whilst some people embrace these constant changes, others feel that fashion seems to leave them trailing a long way behind. The key is not to focus too intensely on trends but focus on what works for you. Being versatile and taking chances with your style is something that should be done over a course of time, but for now, choose a brand that you feel represents you and the look you are trying to achieve. Learn to trust this brand and identify with the style and fit of their clothes.

Choosing the right suit to complement your shape and size…

“I’ve always believed a suit should make a gent look smarter, stand taller and feel more confident”.

Nicholas Charles Tyrwhitt Wheeler – Founder & Owner of Charles Tyrwhitt

Anyone can buy a good off-the-peg-suit, but getting it right requires time and effort. The benefits from this will definitely pay-off when it matters most, so before you consider your next Charles Tyrwhitt suit; take a look at our Suits for all Sizes guide:

The Bigger Gent

Many men’s shirts have a roomier fit to accommodate the larger frame, as do some suits for the more strapping sort. However, there is nothing worse than a suit that fits correctly around the middle but extends well past the knuckles in the sleeve (a common gripe for larger chaps). The key thing to remember is that you should steer clear of anything that makes you appear larger than you already are; give three-button jackets a wide berth, choose a one-button jacket instead. This way you can show more tie, thus breaking-up block colour ways which can make you appear larger. Some men’s clothing stores, such as Charles Trywhitt, offer a classic fit shirt and bespoke tailoring service which will help the mighty man get everything in proportion and achieve a slick, sharp overall look.

Broad Shoulders

When choosing the right suit jacket for broad shoulders, you should remember that the waist area unfortunately suffers all too often. It is a common sight to see a broad gent sporting a suit jacket that accommodates his generous shoulders, but is far too baggy through the middle. Again, our in-store tailoring service will work towards avoiding this pitfall. Bear in mind that getting the right shoulder fit in a suit jacket is arguably the hardest thing to achieve in terms of suiting, so it is worth considering alterations for your off-the-peg buy. Our skilled tailors will get the shoulder fit just right whilst nipping in the waist of your jacket just enough to produce a harmonious silhouette…..

Inhale Fashion Man of The Week….

Inhale Fashion’s most adored and admired style icons are always the gents who have learnt the art of versatility. Ryan Gosling is a hollywood A-lister who in recent years has certainly come out of his sartorial shell. If the 30-year-old Canadian movie star is fulfilling his potential on the big screen, he is also living up to his status as the newest fashion icon.

he Gosling style is very similar in ways to that of David Beckham and also Brad Pitt. All three men know how to rough it up in the daytime, and smooth themselves out for the evening. For all the Savile Row suits out there, a man with a good beard, some rugged jeans and a pair of worn in boots is always appreciated if he is doing it right. By doing it right we mean more than just the clothes. The diet and the exercise routine is what helps to keep these guys looking good in just about anything they wear…..

Fill Your Schedule…

Some of you might wonder what filling your schedule has to do with fashion but in fact for the modern man, having a busy schedule is very important to most aspects of your life including your fashion. The key here is that there is no point dressing up and looking stylish if you have nowhere to go. Our schedule dictates to us how we should dress for a certain occasion. Often confidence comes from how we interact socially, and what we wear plays a huge part in this whole process.

It is only natural that we feel at our best when we have something to do or something to look forward to. Ambitious individuals should always aim to be busy because having a busy schedule means you have a purpose. Some men buy into fashion because their work surroundings or their social environment require them to look good at all times. Some men buy into fashion because their aim is to create that same social environment that their life might be lacking. For whatever reason you are interested in improving your style, you should also contemplate how effectively you can exercise both your style and your social skills at the same time….
